Education and Training:
Eastman School of Music: BM Violin PerformanceMary Page Block is well known in the area as a performer and teacher. With over 25 years of experience in the Raleigh area she has a passion and proven gift for teaching violin.
Her students are active in local and school orchestras such as The Philharmonic Association, where they have been concertmasters and principals of their sections. Students have participated in chamber music through NCCMI, MYCO and The Duke String School. Past students have participatied in Master Classes with visitning artists such as Gil Shaham and competed through MTNA and other programs such as the Peter Perret Talent Search and The NC Symphony Bryan Youth Concerto Competitions. Her love of music and and passion for teaching have helped create skilled musicians of all ages.
After completing her undergraduate studies in Violin Performance at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester NY, Mary moved to the Cary NC and began performing and teaching in the area. She has has freelanced for the North Carolina Symphony, performed solo at the North Carolina Museum of Art for their series “Rembrandt to Rubens” the NC Theater and many other professional groups in the area. In addition, she was a founding member, performer and composer with the Celtic music group Bragh Adair. They released two successful CDs and performed for sell-out crowds at Meymandi Concert Hall, Regency Amphitheater and the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Mary has also been a chamber music coach for The North Carolina Chamber Music Institute.
In addition to her teaching she also owns the company Arioso Strings which provides chamber music ensembles for weddings and events in the Triangle area.
